Ever wonder what birds show up in McAllen’s backyard?  Whether you’re traveling cross-country to birdwatch or you live in downtown McAllen, you can keep an eye on the birds right here on the Quinta Mazatlan Website.  The following list contains the twenty most recent notable birds seen at Quinta Mazatlan, where staff and volunteers count our feathered visitors daily.  Most common birds like the Plain Chacalaca, Inca Dove, Mockingbird, etc. will probably not show up on the list but you can be sure to find them almost anytime at Quinta Mazatlan.  To learn more birds, stop by Quinta Mazatlan to take a walk on our trails, attend our Speaker Series, or buy a Field Guide to Birds in our Nature Store.

All of our bird sightings are also entered into a public citizen science program developed by Cornell Lab of Ornithology called eBird (www.ebird.org). From their website, anyone can add sightings, look at sightings all over the nation, create charts and checklists of local birds and much more.  Check it out or stop by Quinta Mazatlan to learn more.
