Saturday Discovery Days

Bring the family, friends, or your scout group, for a fun-filled educational hour of science, nature activity, craft. All ages welcome! (Note: Scout groups may call to reserve a private guided tour or other activities to fulfill specific requirements. $6 private group fee includes Discovery Day admission).

Spring 2018 Schedule:
  • January: COLD-BLOODED CREATURES- Goodness SNAKES ALIVE! Learn all about "Eugene", "Pheonix", and "Elvis", Quinta's live snake collection during January's "Cold-blooded Creatures" Discovery Days. The one-hour program runs from 11 am- Noon and repeats at 2-3 every Saturday in January. Live animals, nature crafts, and science about information about lizards, tortoises, snakes, and other cold-blooded creatures. $3 fee (includes park admission). All ages welcome.

  • February: SURVIVOR SKILLS- Enjoy some of the challenges of surviving in the wild, as early cultures that lived in this region. Make rope from agave, learn to start a fire from scratch, and learn how to set animal traps. Every Saturday in February from 11 am- Noon and 2-3 pm. $3 fee (includes park admission) All ages welcome.

  • March: Insects are COOL!- Some of our craziest and coolest creatures in the forest are INSECTS! Come learn all about what makes an insect different than other invertebrates. Try your hand at "sweep-netting" with a real butterfly net, and look at insects under the microscope. Then enjoy making insect crafts, including an origami insect. March 3, 10, and 24 from 11 am- Noon and 2-3 pm. $3 fee (includes park admission). All ages welcome.

  • April: EARTH ROCKS!- You'll be amazed to see just how many different types of rocks can be found in the Earth as you watch the presentation of Quinta's world rock collection. Learn the difference between rocks and minerals, minerals and metals, and then enjoy "busting" a rock and painting a rock. Or go on a "treasure hunt" to find the hidden gemstones. Every Saturday in April from 11 am- Noon and 2-3 pm. $3 fee (includes park admission). All ages welcome.

  • May: FLOWER-POWER- Flowers are beautiful, but what goes on INSIDE a flower is amazing! Go on a flower hunt around Quint's gardens and watch a picture show of some of the Valley's most spectacular wildflowers, then make a flower to learn about the power of every flower part. Quick-press dried flowers, and make a flower craft. Every Saturday in May from 11 am- Noon and 2-3 pm. $3 fee (includes park admission). All ages welcome.
