ADAPTATIONS EVERYWHERE
TEKS: Science - 3.9 A, 3.9 B, 3.8 A, 3.8 D
Social Studies – 3.4 A, 3.4 B
Overview
What makes a bird a bird? Is it the feathers, eggs, nests, beaks, or feet? Students will discover what makes our avian friends so unique. With specific reference to adaptations, students will be engaged in hands-on learning by using hand lenses to explore feathers, nests, eggs, and beak/feet replicas up-close. A hands-on activity called “Fill the Bill” covers beak and bill adaptations. Outdoors, students will identify the components of habitat and become familiar with 6 different species of Rio Grande Valley specialty birds.
