Overview

Biomes are defined as the world's major communities classified according to the predominant vegetation and adaptations of organisms to that particular environment. The importance of biomes cannot be overestimated. Human activities have drastically altered these communities. Understanding of biomes should be a major concern to all.

In this 3-hour investigation lesson, students will be divided into 3 investigative units where they will learn all about their local biome - The Thorn Scrub Forest. As investigative scientists, students will become familiar with the various abiotic and biotic factors which make up this unique biome.

Upon returning to the school campus, students will have an opportunity to apply the content knowledge they gained during their investigative field trip by participating in a debriefing and culminating activity, both which are an integral part of a successful learning experience.
