Story-Telling Trees

Overview

Trace the roots of our community by going on a tree walk with your class. With challenging questions and insightful information students will learn about native trees in the RGV and gain a better understanding of the value of each tree.

Program Highlights

• Discuss the importance of trees in our lives
• Discover the values and benefits trees provide wildlife and man
• Study the details of each tree (leaf shape & color, bark color & texture, height & diameter, flowers & seeds)
• Examine cross sections of trees and infer from tree rings the environmental conditions
• Identify poisonous and edible plant parts
• Identify organisms that live in, on and under fallen logs
• Describe the process of decomposition
